Balaton is one of the oldest restaurants on Grodzka street and it has been operating on the Royal Route since 1969. It specialises in potatoes pancakes with Hungarian goulash, goulash soup and countryside meals. Delicious dishes are complemented with excellent Hungarian wines from Tokaj and Eger as well as famous spirits: Palinka and Unicum. Good service and tasty food at reasonable prices.

My favourite place to eat in Krakow, it’s a real gem, I have recommended this place to all my Polish and English friends every time they visit Krakow. Everyone loves it. Not to be missed. Service is amazing, food is out of this world and so tasty, huge portions. It’s a place where you have to try Placek Ziemniaczany (potato pancakes with Goulash) if they did a takeaway service and could send me some to London I be a very happy girl ! The deco is very basic so its not a fancy place but worth every penny for the mouth-watering food ! Easy to find 5 min form the market square.

I absolutely love this place. On my last visit I couldn't resist going for the Zupa węgierska (Hungarian Soup) and Placek ziemniaczany po węgiersku (Potatoes cake with goulash in Hungarian style). Despite my best efforts I couldn't manage it all. Next time I will have to take more notice of the advice from the waitress. Polish food doesn't tend to be very spicy "ostro" (even in a Chinese or Indian restaurant) but the food in the Balaton always hits the right spot with me. Very friendly and efficient services, great food and only 5 minutes from the Market Square.
PS I do not own the place but I am considering kidnapping the chef.
