Krakow Travel Guide for Gays and Lesbians

| |

Over the years, Poland has been conservative towards homosexuality, as a result of the strong Roman Catholic heritage and Communist anti-homosexual propaganda. Even today, tolerance demonstrations in the major Polish cities are not fully approved by the society. So far, the Tolerance March in Krakow has been organized four times as part of the Krakow Gay and Lesbian Culture Festival. The marches were met with verbal abuse and throwing of eggs. The opponents are members of political nationalist parties, organizations and subcultures as well as some church-related parties or organizations. However, the majority of young generation of Poles are tolerant against gays and lesbians.
