Tribunal begins John Paul II's beatification hearing
Krakow: A tribunal hearing testimony whether the late Pope John Paul II should be beatified opened on Friday, 4th November, in Krakow, where the late pontiff spent most of his life.

Members of the investigative tribunal were sworn in at a mass in Wawel Cathedral where John Paul was ordained in 1946. The mass was celebrated by the late pope's private secretary, Stanslaw Dziwisz, now the archbishop of Krakow.

"The beatification process has entered a dynamic phase," said Rev Robert Necek, spokesman for the Krakow diocese.

Tribunal president Bishop Tadeusz Pieronek said the task of the enquiry would be to interrogate witnesses about what they knew - positive or negative - about the life of Karol Wojtyla, who was cardinal archbishop of Krakow before being elected to the papacy.
