The Academy of Music in Krakow (Akademia Muzyczna w Krakowie) is located in downtown Krakow. It was first conceived as a conservatory in 1888 by Wladyslaw Zelenski, and is known as the home of renowned contemporary Polish composers Witold Lutoslawski (1913-1994) and Krzysztof Penderecki (b.1933), who in 1962 struck international fame with his piece, "Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima".
