The Jagiellonian University in Krakow was established in 1364. After Prague it's the second university in Central Europe. The Collegium Maius is a fine example of 15th century Gothic architecture, its inner courtyard is surrounded by arcader and features a staircase leading from the ground floor where lectures rooms are to be found, to the first floor with its halls for official ceremonies.
