Krakow joins top fashion cities
Forget fashion in New York, Paris, Milan or Japan – everyone’s talking about ... Krakow.

The city in Poland is a big riser in the list of world’s most fashionable cities, published by the Global Language Monitor. The list has been compiled by logging references to the cities in print and on the Internet in relation to fashion and culture.

It has made No.25 after its emergence as centre of ‘neo-Bohemian influence’, with a vibrant arts and music scene and flourishing café society, all in a city under UNESCO protection as part of a World Heritage Site.

New York tops the annual list as the world's most ‘talked about’ fashionable city, ahead of Rome with Paris in third place.

London, which has been trumpeting its claims to ‘capital of the world’ over New York in recent months, comes in at four.

New entries in the Top 25 were Berlin (11), Shanghai (14), Moscow (16) and Dubai (24).

Other notable rankings included Los Angeles at seven, Sydney and Melbourne at 12 and 15 respectively, and the ‘Fashion Quartet of South America’ – Santiago in Chile, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo in Brazil, and Buenos Aires in Argentina.

‘The ranking is surprising in a number of ways, most of which relate to the changing nature of the Global Fashion Industry’, said Millie Lorenzo Payack, Fashion Correspondent and Director of the Global Language Monitor. ‘Cities that recently would have been considered fashion backwaters – or worse, are now emerging as significant regional hubs.’ This exclusive ranking is based upon GLM’s Predictive Quantities Index, a proprietary algorithm, that tracks words and phrases in the print and electronic media, on the Internet and throughout the blogosphere. The words and phrases are tracked in relation to their frequency, contextual usage and appearance in global media outlets.
