As low-cost flights continue to make more European destinations more accessible, Howard Swains takes off for a weekend in Poland, where he fell for Krakow's charms.

 

 

The continued availability of low-cost air-travel has all but removed the word "undiscovered" from the European explorer's vocabulary. The likes of Trieste, for example, are no more than £30 away and even mercurial Prague, once the continent's definitive hidden gem, has found itself established on the stag-night circuit.

 

 

It was refreshing, then, to find news of a trip to Krakow greeted consistently with the question "Where?" followed sharply by its twin brother "Why?" But for anyone who has made the trip to Southern Poland to be seduced by Krakow's addictive charms it is less a question of "Why go?" than "When can we go again?"
