Considered one of the most important European festivals devoted to early music, it has earned such acclaim with its constantly evolving image, coherent ideas, and refined programme. It places emphasis on music connected to the entire Easter festivity, performed by recognised masters and eminent interpreters of the historical trend.
Thanks to the organiser’s efforts, the repertoire presented here is very special, and includes both new projects and those prepared especially for the Misteria Paschalia, for example Jordi Savall’s Lachrimae Caravaggio and Jérusalem, and the reconstruction of Francesco Nicola Fago’s Il faraone sommerso oratorio performed by Fabio Biondi.
During the festival, Krakow hosts the greatest stars of early music: besides Savall and Biondi with their ensembles, the city has seen performances by Rinaldo Alessandrini conducting the Concerto Italiano, Marc Minkowski and Les Musiciens du Louvre-Grenoble, Il Giardino Armonico under Giovanni Antonini, and soloists: Vivica Genaux, Sara Mingardo, Romina Basso, Maria Grazia Schiavo, Roberta Invernizzi, Sonia Prina, and Philippe Jaroussky.
