20 January 2010, 7:30pm, Kraków Opera
Appearing on 20 January in the Kraków Opera House is the Japanese Higaki Ballet Company accompanied by the Beethoven Academy Orchestra conducted by Michał Klauza.
The Higaki Ballet Company from Kyoto is known for its original ballet performances combining elements of ancient literature, legend and Japanese noh theatre with contemporary dance forms. Apart from classic ballet works, the group also presents its own shows based on classic works of Japanese literature (Sonezaki Shinju and Ugetsu), The Life of the Austrian Countess Mitsuko or its own version of Swan Lake (Odette). The ballet has received many awards, including the Grand Prix of the National Art Festival in Japan. The Higaki Ballet has appeared already in Poland (in the National Theatre in Warsaw) with the TAIKO show in 2006, apparently organised like their January collaborative performance in Kraków with the Ludwig van Beethoven Association.
