Wisla Krakow Win UEFA Cup Qualification In Overtime

A late goal by Mihailovic helped Wisla Krakow reach the overtime where they beat Iraklis Thessalonica 2-0 away and advanced to the next stage of UEFA Cup.

Iraklis after their 1-0 win in Poland were only a few seconds away from qualifying to the group stage of the competition. Everything changed, though, when Mihailovic in the last attempt of the visiting side for a goal three minutes into the stoppage-time executed a free-kick that deflected off to the barrier and went home to level the aggregate score.

This advantage proved to be a huge boost for Wisla who missed many chances in the extra time to net a winner until the 100’ when Brozek found inside Irakli’s area unguarded Candoro who had no problem to make it 2-0 and write off the last hopes of the Greek side.

UEFA Cup contenders Wisla Kraków have suffered a double blow after learning that Arkadiusz Glowacki and Jacob Burns have both been ruled out of action for six weeks. Central defender Arkadiusz Głowacki sustained an injury while on international duty with Poland on Monday, and the predicted six-week lay-off will rule him out of his side’s first two UEFA Cup Group E matches against Blackburn Rovers FC and AS Nancy-Lorraine on 19 October and 2 November respectively. The 27-year-old also stands to miss out on Poland’s forthcoming UEFA EURO 2006 qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Portugal in addition to the Poles' subsequent match against Belgium on 15 November.

Glowacki will be joined on the sidelines for a similar timescale by Australian team-mate Jacob Burns. The 28-year-old central midfielder picked up a groin injury in the 1-1 league draw at GKS GKS Gornik Leczna on 17 September.
