The summertime opera meetings are well-placed in the landscape of cultural events in Krakow, and they are received with growing interest of the opera lovers from the city, the country and abroad. When preparing the Programme of the 12th Summer Opera Festival in Krakow, taking place from 15 June to 11 July 2008, the organizers were trying to ensure both diversity of artistic proposals and unique places of staging of the summer meetings. The premiere of Johann Strauss’s Gypsy Baron as an open-air show will be staged on the hippodrome next to the Royal Castle of Niepolomice as part of the Festival. Each performance will be seen by 1,000 people. Niepolomice will also become the venue of Puccini’s Tosca whose Act I will be presented in a church interiors and the remaining two Acts on the Courtyard of the Niepolomice Castle. Wawel Castle will be the venue of the performance composed of famous opera arias sung by outstanding soloists.
